  • Financial Paths Project
    Offers year-round seminars and workshops on personal finance and entrepreneurship

  • Veterans Outreach Project
    Assists local veterans and their families with obtaining services and benefits from the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs
  •  
  • CAHI Project (Community Access to Health Information)
    Promotes the health and well-being of our community by distributing health literature, offering free condoms, conducting health workshops and other programming and assisting residents with signing up for health insurance
  •  
  • LGBTQ Safe Zone Project
    Offer a safe space for LGBTQ youth and adults to receive emotional support, counseling, and referrals as needed
  •  
  • Summer Youth Leadership Project
    An annual 8-week summer program for Coney Island youth which focuses on leadership development and community service
  •  
  • Coney Island College Bound Project
    Offers free SAT-prep classes, free college trips, and college information forums to high-school students
  •  
  • "Ask-a-Lawyer" Series
    Provides opportunities to local residents to meet with multi-specialty attorneys at no cost
  •  
  • Job and Housing Search Assistance
    Provides information on available employment opportunities and available housing
  •  
  • Criminal Record Repair Counseling & Rap Sheet Review
    Provides an opportunity for formerly incarcerated residents to meet with locally-trained volunteers who will help them review their rap sheets and remove barriers to employment, in partnership with South Brooklyn Legal Services

  • Anti-Violence Activism
    UNS helps spread anti-violence messaging in the community and is proud to be the lead agency for The Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative

  • Post-Sandy Recovery Assistance
    As Coney Island continues to recover from Super Storm Sandy, we are proud to offer the Post-Sandy Health Outreach Project, funded by AmeriCares which allows us to provide mental health counseling, insurance enrollment and case management to local residents

Urban Neighborhood Services, Inc. (UNS) is a grass-roots 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization offering a spectrum of vital programs and services to traditionally underserved residents in Coney Island and other surrounding communities in Southern Brooklyn. We are delighted to also serve individuals from all over New York City.

* The next general body meeting for The Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative will be on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at 6p.m. at the Coney Island YMCA. A Peace Walk will follow immediately.

 

News & Announcements

* UNS receives a one-year grant from AmeriCares for the Coney Island Post-Sandy Health Outreach Project.

* Coney Island residents are able to sign-up for health insurance at UNS on Tuesdays from 9a.m. to 5p.m., Wednesdays 2-5p.m. and Fridays 9a.m. to 5p.m.

* UNS is pleased to partner with Brooklyn Community Services to offer the 2014 Summer Youth Leadership Intensive.
