Urban Policy and Research

As Urban Neighborhood Services seeks to be part of the national dialogue regarding how to improve
social conditions in America's urban communities, we realize that our work is done against the
backdrop of governmental efforts to also meet the needs of inner-city residents.  The 44th President
of the United States, Barack Obama, has appointed the first White House Director of Urban Policy.
This is an encouraging signal that the needs and well-being of Urban communities are part of the
national agenda and that there is a renewed federal commitment to improving America's inner cities.

One of the long-term objectives of Urban Neighborhood Servicesis to conduct research on issues
affecting urban residents such as housing, employment, poverty, inequality, and resiliency, and to
disseminate our findings through conferences, publications, and other effective methods.  Below are
